Austin Toros
The Austin Toros is an NBA Developmental League for the San Antonio Spurs. The Toros play at the Cedar Park Center located in Cedar Park, Texas. The construction of this 55 million dollar arena started in 2008 and opened in September 2009. The arena seats 6,800 people and is used for hockey and other events such as concerts and rodeos. This team under the coaching of Taylor Jenkins has had recent successes including a D-League Championship in the 2011-2012 season. Corey Joseph is known as their best player and is entering the NBA. The team is owned by the San Antonio Spurs. They develop players and ready them for the NBA. “The best part about the D-League is we develop not just basketball players but community ambassadors and good citizens.” Lubell said. “The players that come into the D-League understand they’re not only trying to improve themselves in the game of basketball but also to sell themselves as individuals and as good people so they can move up to the NBA and accomplish their dreams.” one of the players said. The Toros work very hard off the court to help others achieve their dreams not only themselves. They also hold a charity game in which police play fire men. This game Guns vs. Hoses. A portion of all Police ticket sales will go to Special Olympics while a portion of all Fire ticket sales will support both Explorer Post 370 and the Austin Firefighters Outreach Fund. They also helped raise funds for a children's choir and let them sing the National Anthem and do a half time performance.
